FEATURED CASE STUDY

LivWell Community Health Services

COMMUNICATIONS · DESIGN · DIGITAL · HEALTHCARE

LivWell Community Health Services is a regional nonprofit healthcare organization providing medical care, prevention, case management, behavioral health, housing, nutrition, pharmacy services, and other support across western Kentucky and southern Illinois.

My work spans communications, design, website content, campaigns, fundraising and event promotion, educational materials, and community-facing outreach. Much of the challenge is taking information that can be complicated, sensitive, or highly specific and making it clear, approachable, and useful to the people who need it.

ROLE · DEVELOPMENT + COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

THE CHALLENGE

Clear information matters when people are trying to make decisions about their health.

Healthcare communication has to balance a lot at once. Information needs to be accurate, easy to understand, respectful of the people receiving it, and adaptable across very different formats and audiences.

At LivWell, that can mean communicating about HIV and STI prevention, testing, treatment, case management, behavioral health, housing, nutrition, pharmacy services, fundraising, events, or general organizational information. The subject may change, but the challenge is often the same: take information that can feel complicated, clinical, sensitive, or overwhelming and make it more approachable.

My work has focused on helping create clearer, more consistent communication across web, print, digital campaigns, educational materials, and public-facing outreach. That includes thinking not only about what information needs to be shared, but how someone is likely to encounter it, what they need to understand first, and what action they should be able to take next.

The goal is not to simplify important information until it loses meaning. It is to make it easier for people to find, understand, and use.

MY ROLE

Communications work across the organization.

My role touches both day-to-day communication and larger projects. I move between writing, design, digital content, campaigns, events, fundraising support, and outreach materials depending on what the organization needs.

COMMUNICATIONS + CONTENT

Making information easier to understand

Writing, editing, campaign messaging, newsletters, educational content, public information, and audience-focused communication across print and digital platforms.

DESIGN + CAMPAIGNS

Turning messages into usable materials

Flyers, brochures, billboards, outreach graphics, event promotion, social media materials, and visual assets designed for different audiences and formats.

WEBSITE + DIGITAL

Current and accessible

Website content, page structure, service information, digital campaigns, forms, and support for analytics and online engagement.

EVENTS + DEVELOPMENT

Engagement and fundraising

Event promotion, fundraising communications, sponsor recognition, donor-facing materials, campaign support, and coordination around public-facing events.

WEBSITE + DIGITAL

Organizing information around what people need to know.

The website has to serve people who may be arriving with very different questions. Some are looking for testing or prevention information, some need medical or support services, and others may simply be trying to understand what LivWell offers and how to get connected.

My work has focused on clarifying page structure, improving service content, organizing information more logically, and making the site easier to navigate across devices.

I also think about how the website connects to the organization’s broader communications. Campaigns, outreach materials, event promotion, and public information all work better when the website gives people a clear place to continue, learn more, or take action.

CAMPAIGN + OUTREACH DESIGN

Reaching people where they already are.

Outreach materials often have only a few seconds to get someone’s attention, so the message has to be immediate, approachable, and easy to understand.

My work includes designing materials for public awareness, prevention, testing, youth outreach, and community engagement across a range of formats. That can mean a billboard seen from the road, a flyer shared at an event, a graphic used online, or a piece of information placed directly into an outreach setting.

Each format has different limitations, but the goal stays consistent: make the message clear enough to notice, useful enough to remember, and appropriate for the people it is intended to reach.

PUBLICATIONS + INFORMATION

Making longer-form information easier to navigate.

Not every message can be reduced to a headline. Brochures, newsletters, educational materials, and other information-heavy pieces have to help people move through more detail without becoming overwhelming.

My work in this area focuses on hierarchy, readability, pacing, and making sure the most important information is easy to find. I think about how someone will scan the piece, what they are likely to look for first, and how the design can guide them through the content without competing with it.

The same principles apply across print and digital formats: organize the information clearly, make the next step obvious, and let the design support the message rather than distract from it.

EVENTS + PROMOTION

Giving events a clear identity before people ever arrive.

Event communications have to build interest while also giving people the practical information they need to participate.

My work includes event flyers, social graphics, Facebook cover images, fundraising promotion, sponsor recognition, and other materials used before and during an event. I often build sets of related pieces so the event feels consistent across print, web, email, and social media.

The goal is to create enough visual continuity that people recognize the event wherever they encounter it, while still adapting the information to fit each format.
